James Belay

  • Make a foot break with silks together
  • Split upper poles and bring upper body through silks
  • Rotate upper body 1/2 rotation in one direction, grab poles and straddle-invert
  • Bring leg, opposite of the direction you turned, through the middle of the poles and hook on opposite pole (for example, if you turned your body to the right, bring your left leg through the center and hook left knee on right pole)
  • Pull up on pole in front (not the one the hooked knee is on) and bring upper body through the middle of the poles, leading with the shoulder that matches the hooked knee (for example, if you’ve hooked your left knee, bring your left shoulder through the poles first)
  • Continue to bring body through the poles, bringing the free leg through as well
  • Belay tails will be towards body (this is different from basic belay where the tails are going away from the body)
