- With silks together, grip poles, and place silks to one side of the body
- Straddle invert, bend and hook the knee (opposite leg of the silk side)
- Release the hand that matches the bent knee and re-grab poles above bend knee while pulling up on tails with the other hand, to wedge silks into the bent knee, and squeeze knee hard
- Release tails and match hand to the hand high on poles, pull body up, while squeezing the tails in the knee-pit (you may bring the free leg up to create a shelf, you may cross the free leg over the bend knee, you may cross the legs and lean towards the bent knee – all ways of helping the silks from sliding, until you get your knee pit strong enough to hold it alone)
- Re-grip hands higher on poles, release silks from legs, straddle invert (you will now have the silk on the opposite side you began on, so your “opposite leg” will now be switched as well)
- Hook opposite leg and repeat on this side, as you continue to climb, you will switch back and forth from which leg is hooking as you climb
