Starfish

  • Split silks, single footlock on one silk
  • Take opposite arm of the locked foot, trap free silk in elbow, and grab pole of locked foot
  • Lean into hip balance
  • Take same-side hand (as locked foot) and bring free tail from behind back, up and over lap as you stand straight up
  • With same-side hand on pole of locked foot, take opposite-side hand and hook thumb in silk under armpit, push silk down to meet with tail that is over lap, grip is such that thumb is pointing towards the ceiling, and push down to hip
  • Lean back slightly, bring free leg up (around pole) and guide free foot through poles
  • Pull up on the locked-foot pole as you straighten both legs towards the ground, body will be upright and between the two poles (front and back, not side and side)
  • Continue to take upper body through the poles, pointing free foot towards the ground
  • Release bottom hand, keeping top hand positioned high on pole, place body in an “X” position, pose
  • Exit, OR
  • Square hips towards ceiling, bending knee of locked foot
  • Lower top body down, release hands, arch in stag, pose
  • To Exit: grab pole that is in front, pull up while straightening bent/locked leg, and point locked foot out and towards the ground
  • Guide upper body through poles, following locked leg
  • Once body is through the middle, pike hips (this makes it easier to remove leg), bring free leg through the middle of the poles, and stand strong on locked leg, undo footlock
