Split Roll Up

  • Split silks, make equal footlocks, place hands on one pole at eye height, and rotate body to face that pole
  • Lower down into splits, pose
  • Adjust front hands so that the same-side hand as the front foot is above the head on pole, opposite-side hand is lower than head on pole
  • Pull up on pole, begin rotating around back leg (you can check which way to go by looking at the footlock on the back leg, if you roll on way, the footlock will unravel, if you roll the correct way, the foot will become MORE wrapped, another way to decide is begin the rotation with the front foot, leading with the pinkie toe)
  • Bring the front leg through the middle of the silks, keep legs straight and strong, as you adjust the tension on the pole as you rotate, settle into splits (one rotation)
  • Complete as many rotations as you like (the more rotations, the more angled/vertical your splits will be, the less, the more flat/horizontal your splits will be), pose
  • To Exit: Switch hand positions so that opposite-side hand to the front leg is now higher on the pole and the same-side hand is lower on the pole, reverse rotations (you are now unwrapping the back foot and leading with the front foot’s big toe)
  • After reversing all roll-ups, remove footlocks
