Apollo (Sunrise, Sunset)

  • Split silks and hip key onto one silk (if you hip key to the right, use the right silk, if you hip key to the left, use the left silk)
  • Wrap your bottom leg with the tail of the silk you are hip keyed onto (outside to the inside) NOTE: it helps lock you in better if you keep the silk wrapped behind you above your bottom at your sacrum, versus allowing the silk to slide off the bottom and directly around the leg.
  • Optional: create spin
  • Crochet top arm on the pole of the free silk, and crochet bottom arm on the tails of the free silk (you do not have to crochet, but it does make it more secure)
  • Bring your top leg up and place your toes on the pole, at the same time, press hips forward and arch (pushing hips forward will help secure the wrap) and pose
  • Release bottom hand and match on the pole with the top hand, re-grabbing with a regular grip if the top hand was crocheted
  • Push into pole with top foot that is already on the pole, swing bottom leg up and through the middle, releasing the top leg as the bottom leg comes through, pose in cupid (this is what we’re calling Sunrise)
  • Bend knee on the leg where the thigh is wrapped and sink into knee hang (this is what we’re calling Sunset)
  • Sit up, pull on pole, and shoot both feet towards the floor, back into cupid (sunrise)
  • Repeat as many times as you want, change it up, add flourishes, etc.
  • To exit: From sunset (knee hang), keep holding onto the free pole with both hands and lean back, unhook knee, and key over. Remove silk from bottom leg, sit up, grab pole with same-side hand, release silks from legs
